I had the most wonderful time illustrating a second entry in the Ruskin Bond for Young Readers series published by Penguin Books, India. In the book, we follow a wacky journey as Rusty and his grandparents shift from Dehradun to Lucknow, complete with a menagerie of pets (and some stowaways) accompanying! Humorous as ever, the book was a delight to work on.

Below are a few spreads from the book (without text), and a few process images. All illustrations were made in Photoshop for the iPad.

Below is the three-step process followed for each spread: storyboard sketches, clean lineart, and colored final art.

The pipeline took some adjustment, with initial artwork being created in Procreate before switching to Photoshop on the iPad. Though I wanted to use a very earthy, red palette for the book, these tones would often shift towards brown in print. Accounting for this (and to reduce color monotony), cool tones were introduced into the palette quite significantly. As much of the book takes place at night, nailing dark scenes while keeping them legible was very important and challenging!
